Summer Woods puts a fresh spin on the traditions of classic singer/songwriters like Joni Mitchell, but thanks to offbeat influences such as Beck and Ween, her music comes out sounding like something only Summer could create.

The LA-based artist’s diverse sensibilities are on full display in her semi-electronic, semi-acoustic EP, Nope Just Me, a collection of deliciously catchy pop ditties sprinkled with flavors from all kinds of genres from bossa nova to deep house; it also featured an upbeat cover of a Ween B-side, “Skycruiser”. Her latest EP, Chihuahua Hat, is Summer’s acoustic, stripped-down take on her favorite “Weird Al” Yankovic deep cuts— and despite its comedic qualities, it was taken seriously (and happily retweeted) by Weird Al himself. After opening for Poncho Sanchez as well as Andy Mckee and Yasmin Williams, performing alongside Creed Bratton, and being interviewed for both VoyageLA and Pasadena Weekly magazine, she’s on the scene again with her brand-new single, “Pasadena”, which came out May 20th. As a multi-instrumentalist with a bachelor’s degree in songwriting and composition from Los Angeles College of Music, Summer is a creator to be reckoned with.
